Eloxatin is a IV injected platinum based antineoplastic that works by destroying cancer cells.

Eloxatin Uses

Eloxatin is usually used in combination with other drugs as chemotherapy treatment of stage 3 colorectal cancer. Eloxatin has received FDA approval for colorectal cancer, but some other uses are treatment of breast, head ,neck, lymph, pancreatic, bladder, testicular cancer.

Eloxatin side effects

Eloxatin like most drugs may have drug interactions as well as allergic reactions. Some possible serious side effects are numbness and tingling in the hands, legs ,arms, throat and mouth, sensitivity to cold, jaw or chest tightness, speech difficulty, flu like symptoms, dry mouth, bleeding disorders. Less serious side effects are nausea, diarhea, constipation , stomach pain, loss of appetite ,hair loss, sleep difficulty, headache, back pain and swelling. Ibuprofen should be avoided while using Eloxatin as it may lead to kidney problems. Aminoglycosides use combined with Eloxatin may lead to hearing problems. Blood thinner use may pose bleeding problems when using Eloxatin. Conditions to consider before using Eloxatin are liver disease , breathing disorders, pregnancy, breast feeding or nerve disorders .
